Hello, and welcome to the newsletter for January 16

Reading

We have begun our unit on traditional literature. We have discussed the different types of traditional literature and have practiced identifying each kind. We have also practiced identifying signal words in our texts that help us identify the beginning, middle and end of a text.

We have also been focusing on being engaged readers. That means we have eyes on our text, we stay in one spot, and are reading the whole time. We are trying to identify texts that are interesting to us as readers.

Math

In math, we learned how to identify the types of angles. We identified obtuse, acute, right, and straight angles. We learned how to use a protractor to measure angles. We learned how to name an angle.

We have also learned how to convert customary units. We practiced converting miles, yards, feet, and inches.

Finally, we learned how to put data on a line plot.

Science

We have learned about magnetism. We learned that magnets attract iron, nickel, and cobalt. We learned that magnets have two poles. Unlike poles attract each other and like poles repel each other.

We learned that magnets have magnetic fields. We experimented with iron filings to see these magnetic fields in action!
